Courage & Confidence is a beginner developmental cycling program that centers on fun, fitness, and friendship. The program offers a well-rounded mix of cycling and fitness activities that challenge the courage to learn and apply new skills, to build confidence as both an athlete and young person.
Beginners/ages 8-12 are preferred in this program. The Coach will utilize discretion when placing an athlete into this or another developmental program. No previous experience is needed to take part in any indoor or road activities, but having completed a community program at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center is a prerequisite for joining the track activities.
Indoor cycling and strength/fitness sessions are offered in the winter. Road cycling and track cycling sessions are offered in the spring. Road cycling and track race coaching are offered in the summer. Along with learning age-appropriate safety, skills, and building fitness throughout the sessions, friendly competitions, group games, and team activities are held to keep spirits high and begin to build a sense of community.
90-minute+ sessions are offered two days per week. Winter sessions are held Dec-March, spring sessions are held April-May, and summer sessions are held June-Aug and are conveniently held around school hours. Watch the event page for exact details as these months approach.
The winter indoor cycling and strength/fitness sessions are held at the Kim Geist Academy, a facility designed specifically for this purpose. Spring and summer road cycling is held at the Bob Rodale Cycling & Fitness Park, a safe paved path with a lane designated for cycling. All track cycling is held at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center, “The Bicycle Racing Capital of the World”.
This program is meant to be flexible to wants and needs since at this age and/or as a beginner, other family, school, and extracurricular activities are expected to be given as much of a priority. Winter, spring, and summer sessions are signed up for individually. A choice can also be made to take part in both days offered per week or just one. Choose your season, day, and discipline. A trial pass is even available to just see what it is all about before committing to more days.
All strength/fitness equipment is provided. A personal geared bike with 26-27″ wheels and relatively smooth tires is needed for indoor and road cycling (contact us if you have different or are in need). Track bike rentals are available for a small fee or a personal track bike may be used. A helmet is needed for all outdoor cycling.
~$9/session, depending upon sign-up option
