Momentum & Mastery is an intermediate developmental cycling program designed to move beyond the basics, to a more focused path. Whether goals include competitive racing or lifelong enjoyment of the sport, this program builds the essential foundation for skilled and strategic cycling. This is where momentum becomes mastery – and where cycling starts to become your sport.

Ages/Skills

Intermediate/ages 13-18 are preferred in this program. The Coach will utilize discretion when placing an athlete into this or another developmental program. The program is a natural progression from Courage & Confidence, but previous experience is not necessarily needed to take part in any indoor or road activities. But having completed a community program at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center is a prerequisite for joining the track activities.

Offerings

Indoor cycling, road cycling, and strength sessions are offered in the winter. Road cycling and track cycling sessions are offered in the spring. Road cycling and road race coaching, track cycling and track race coaching are offered in the summer. In addition to becoming proficient in safely riding on the road and developing a deeper track awareness, physical abilities are developed through introducting basic training techniques and essential supplemental knowledge like nutrition.

Schedule

90-120min.+ sessions are offered three days per week. Winter sessions are held Dec-March, spring sessions are held April-May, and summer sessions are held June-Aug and are conveniently held around school hours. Watch the event page for exact details as these months approach.

Location

The winter indoor cycling and strength sessions are held at the Kim Geist Academy, a facility designed specifically for this purpose. Year-round road cycling is held at the Bob Rodale Cycling & Fitness Park, a safe paved path with a lane designated for cycling, or leaving from the Earl Adams Memorial Park, which is immediately situated to low-trafficked roads. All track cycling is held at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center, “The Bicycle Racing Capital of the World”.

Commitment

This program marks a point when cycling is becoming more of a priority among other activities. It is encouraged to sign up for the entire season in order to progress smoothly, but a month-to-month option is available. A trial pass is also available to just see what it is all about before committing to more.

Equipment

All strength equipment is provided. A personal road bike with 26-27″ wheels and relatively smooth tires is needed for indoor and road cycling (contact us if you have different or are in need). A personal track bike is recommended so that gearing may be changed, but track bike rentals are available for a small fee. A heart rate monitor and supplies to fix a flat tire are required. A helmet is needed for all outdoor cycling.

Club/Team

Gotham Cyclists, a long-established and reputable USA Cycling club/team, partners with us to provide support to those program participants who wish to join. There is no membership fee. Members receive club uniform, reduced entry fees, and additional mentorship throughout the year. Gotham Cyclists provides a helping hand and a further sense of community to our program.
